WALLACE AND THE SNICKERS® FORD FINISH 23rd AT DOVER

DOVER,DE (September 23, 2007) – Kenny Wallace and the #88 Snickers® Ford finished 23rd Sunday in the Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway known as the “Monster Mile.” Wallace piloted the Snickers Ford for the third consecutive week in place of Ricky Rudd who continues to recover from a separated shoulder injury he sustained at California Speedway. The “Monster Mile” lived up to its title Sunday as numerous drivers found themselves victims of the vicious grasp in a race filled with cautions and wrecks where only the strong survived unscathed.

The Dodge Dealers 400 began at 1:46pm as Jimmie Johnson led the field to the green flag but lost the lead during the opening lap to Denny Hamlin. Wallace and the Snickers Ford began the race from 39th, while teammate David Gilliland started his #38 M&M’S® Ford directly in front of Wallace from 37th on the inside of row 19. In the opening laps of the race, Wallace climbed up to 37th before calling in over team communications to Crew Chief Butch Hylton on lap ten that the Snickers Ford was tight exiting the turns.

Fortunately the first caution of the afternoon came on lap 13 when the #70 of Johnny Sauter hit the wall coming off Turn four. Hylton called for a pit stop on lap 14 and made adjustments to the air pressure settings in the tires. The #88 took on four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel before restarting in 39th. The second caution of the day followed shortly after the restart when the #21 of Ken Schrader spun out during lap 21. Wallace brought the Snickers Ford onto pit road for another series of adjustments aimed at correcting the handling. The Snickers pit crew took four fresh tires and fuel while also making a change to the right rear jackbolt.

Denny Hamlin continued to lead followed closely by Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson. Kenseth eventually caught Hamlin on lap 41and took the lead on lap 42. Wallace called in over team radio communications that the car’s front end continued to slide into the middle of the turns which made it difficult to drive the fastest line in the corners of the track. Continuous adjustments to air pressure levels as well as the wedge increased the Snickers Ford’s handling but the yellow flags of caution laps kept interrupting the race. The first long green flag run came after a restart on lap 85 while Kurt Busch was the current race leader and Wallace was in 38th. The field was able to complete 63 laps before the next caution occurred.

The restart on lap 153 once again found Matt Kenseth as the race leader while Wallace restarted in 33rd and Gilliland was 37th. Around lap 174, Wallace called in to Hylton over team communications that the Snickers Ford felt much better than it had earlier in the race and urged Hylton to continue in the same direction with any future adjustments for the afternoon the #88 may need. During a caution following a collision between Kyle Petty and Denny Hamlin during lap 203, Hylton called for one more round of changes with a focus on the track bar and air pressure settings.

Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400 was plagued with cautions and various accidents, but the “Monster Mile” had a few big challenges saved up for the final 40 laps of the race in which five of the 13 cautions for the day occurred including “The Big One”. During lap 363, the #49 and #96 collided coming off Turn three, and the resulting crash found the field halted under the red flag for over five minutes while track operations members cleaned up the racing surface.

The largest incident of the afternoon came during lap 386 when Kurt Busch bounced off the wall on the backstretch and set into motion a multi-car crash which collected a total of ten cars and once again found the field under the red flag. After almost 12 minutes of clean-up, the field went back to green flag racing and was only stopped one more time for the final caution of the day due to lingering debris from damaged race cars.

“It was a difficult day for us today,” commented Wallace following the race. “We found ourselves battling changing track conditions all afternoon and every pit stop we made the Snickers pit crew made every attempt to find the best solution for our car. We started the race tight and lacking front grip which is something that we encountered during practice sessions. We just ran our race today and did the best we could to complete laps and stay out of trouble. It was just a wild afternoon here at Dover, and I’m really proud of our team for working so hard all afternoon on the Snickers Ford.”

Carl Edwards won Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway. Edwards led for a total of 95 laps and Sunday’s victory marks his third of the 2007 NEXTEL Cup Series season, and Roush Fenway Racing’s 100th NETXEL Cup Series win. Teammate Greg Biffle finished second after starting the Dodge Dealers 400 from ninth. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished third and posted his 11th Top-10 finish of the season. Mark Martin drove his #01 from 31st to finish the afternoon in fourth, and Kyle Busch rounded out the top-five leaders in Sunday’s race. Wallace drove away with a 23rd-place finish, while Gilliland followed nest in line with a 24th-place finish for his M&M’S Ford.

Following Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400, the second race of The Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, Jeff Gordon reclaimed the top spot to once again lead the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver point standings. Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson entered the Dodge Dealers 400 tied in total number of points, but after a 14th-place finish Sunday at Dover, Johnson fell three positions to fourth in the standings. Tony Stewart moved up to second and is followed by Carl Edwards who charged ahead five spots to third following Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400. Kyle Busch remains unchanged this week in fifth place. Wallace remains 43rd in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver point standings, while Gilliland also remains unchanged at 28th following the Dodge Dealers 400.

Next weekend the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series travels to Kansas Speedway for the LifeLock 400 and the third race of The Chase for the NEXTEL Cup. Pre-race television coverage begins on Sunday, September 30th at 1:00 p.m. EST on ABC. Radio coverage will be provided by the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
